How were the children in concentration camps treated

Page history last edited by ariel 13 years, 11 months ago

During the holocaust, terrifying actions accured in concentration camps to children. The actions consisted of starvation, hard labor, and poor living conditions. Because of all of these about 1.5 million people died. These actions are unforgettable and they will never be forgotten. Kids lost many family members and friends during this period of time and was very hard to get over. With that, children also had to deal with there own lifes, and worrying what was going to happen to them the next day. Many of these children lost hope.

food/housing

The living conditions for these kids were unbearable. Many starved and many got sick because of the conditions they were living in. If a kid was lucky enough they would get one piece of bread to hold them through the week. Because of starvation the people that the kids slept next to would die over night. A survivor once stated “most kids died from starvation” (“I will bear not witness”2). These children also had to sleep with 400 others in the same cabin. because of all of this, about 1.3 million children died during this time.

torture/ consequences

During the holocaust the consequences and torture were horrible. The children in the concentration camps witnessed death of siblings and close family members. As long with people watching torture, they also faced starvation, illness, and hard labor until some of them were sent to the gas chambers. The hard labor consist of, working with the crematoriums, helping kill other people in the concentration camps, or anything that was torture in general. The illnesses were from being starved and because of the cold weather with no clothes. Some people hot hypothermia from the freezing weather. The gas chambers were built with 3-5 oven andabout a hundred of dead bodies in each oven because they were burned in them. And many other horrifying experements happend to them.

Many people died in the concentration camps. Out of those people, 1.2 million of them were jewish. Besides Jewish people, about 10,000 were gypsy and 1,000 were institutionalized handicapped children. All of these people died, some people got lucky and are still living today.
